Have you ever been asked, “Do you know so-and-so?” and found yourself responding, “No, who is that?” Well, moments like that happen often in schools as large as Lakota. As a Lakota student myself, I believe it’s important for students to get to know one another and build connections within the community. Because of that, I’d like to introduce someone you may not know yet — Kelsie Wanger.
The Face Behind the Name
Meet Kelsie Wager, a sophomore at Lakota West High School who enjoys playing soccer and spending time with the people who matter most to her. Kelsie describes herself as someone who really values the moments she shares with her friends and family. According to her, those are the times when her personality truly shines.
“ Being with my family and friends really brings out my personality,” Kelsie says. “ I’m able to laugh as much as I want and joke around. I just love being around the people I care about.”
For Kelsie, those connections help shape who she is and make everyday life more enjoyable. Like many students, Kelsie has her own preferences. Her favorite TV show is Gossip Girl, and her favorite color is yellow. When it comes to food, she enjoys eating at Jersey Mike’s. Soccer is also a big part of her life, and it’s one of the activities she enjoys the most. When asked about one of her favorite memories at Lakota West, Kelsie shared that it was watching Macbeth at school with her friends. Moments like that stand out to her because they blend school experiences with time spent alongside the people she loves. Sometimes people think they know someone just by hearing their name or seeing them in the hallway. But in reality, there is always more to a person than what appears on the surface. Kelsie Wanger is someone with strong friendships, meaningful interests, and a personality that shines when she’s around the people she cares about.
The idea behind this article
As a student at Lakota West, I’ve realized that while our school is full of people, it can sometimes feel like we don’t truly know one another. It’s common to hear someone ask, “Do you know so-and-so?” only for the response to be, “No, who is that?” In a school this big, it’s easy for people to become just another face in the hallway. My goal in creating this series is to change that. Instead of describing someone as “the girl with the pretty smile” or “the one who’s always with her friends and family”, I want to highlight the real stories and personalities behind the names. By getting to know each other a little better, we can build stronger connections and create a more welcoming community at Lakota West.
