What a four-day stretch of March Madness! So many crazy games and multiple game winners. These are the coverage and review of all the crazy game winners that happened on the first weekend of 2026 March Madness.
Ohio St vs TCU:
Final Score 66-64 TCU won. This was the first game in the round of 64. What a start to the tournament! TCU started off the game hot. They jumped out to a big lead at halftime. Then, Ohio State came back and almost made an improbable comeback.
High Point vs Wisconsin:
Final Score 83-82 High Point won. This was the biggest upset in the first round. Chase Johnston of High Point was the hero. He had a clutch three-pointer to lead the comeback, and then he had the game-winning shot. Unbelievably, his first two-point field goal of the entire season was the game-winning shot.
VCU vs North Carolina:
Final Score 82-78 VCU won. The biggest comeback win for the first weekend of this March Madness. VCU was down by 19 points and stormed back to upset the Tar Heels. Terrence Hill Jr on VCU scored a whopping 34 points in the game.
Kentucky vs Santa Clara:
Final Score 89-84 Kentucky won(OT). By far the most exciting game of the tournament so far. Allen Graves put Santa Clara up 3 points with 2.4 seconds left in the 2nd half of regulation. Then magically, Otega Oweh runs up the court and fires up a 32-foot shot that banks off the backboard and goes in. Then shortly after, Kentucky holds on in overtime and pulls off the magical win.
Nebraska vs Vanderbilt:
Final Score 74-72 Nebraska won. The best game of the 2nd round of the tournament. The chance for both teams to move on to the Sweet 16. Braden Frager of Nebraska hit an incredible layup, putting the Cornhuskers up 2 with 2.2 seconds left in regulation. Vanderbilt quickly inbounded to Tyler Tanner. He put up a half-court heave to win the game, and it bounced in, then out of the rim, and Nebraska survived.
St. John’s vs Kansas:
Final Score 67-65 St. John’s won. This was a really fun game to watch and experience. St. John’s controlled the whole game, having the lead the majority of the game. But then in the last 5 minutes, Kansas stormed back. Kansas had all the momentum when they eventually tied the game at 65-65. St. John’s then designed a play for Dylan Darling, a player who hasn’t scored a point all game. He drove to the basket, and scored a layup as the buzzer went off to secure the win for St. John’s.
Iowa vs Florida:
Final Score 73-72. Iowa won. The 1-seed in the South Region has been taken down. The Iowa Hawkeyes dominated the majority of the game. They rattled the Florida offense, forcing tough baskets and pressure. Iowa was down by 2 with 8.9 seconds left in regulation. That’s when Alvaro Folguerias hit a clutch three-pointer to get the underdog win for his Hawkeye squad.
