Fourth quarter. The very end.
Lakota’s third quarter is coming to an end. We’ve had pep rallies, sporting events, spirit weeks, and so many more memories in these past months.
While this is the end, it’s also a beginning. Here’s how to set yourself up for success next quarter – also your last!
Stay organized
A good schedule is always essential for academic success. It doesn’t have to always be the same, repetitive set up, but keeping track of your work and setting a good time for it works wonders.
Many find it helpful to use a planner. This could be physical or online. Writing down work shortens the possibility of forgetting your work by a lot. No more late assignments!
Staying organized of your work also means being organized with time. Always consider not only what time to work at, but how much time you need to work on things. Consider due dates, and the intensity of assignments. You’ll need to reserve more time for that essay!
Have a work space
If you try to do your schoolwork sitting in bed, chances are you’ll end up on your phone, watching tv, or getting distracted in any other way. Your place of work is very important. Reserve a place for work only, separate it from your leisure area(s).
It’s also helpful to keep this space clean. If this space is cluttered, your head-space will feel the same. Leave out things that could be a distraction, and instead include work materials, and calming decor. Remember, clean space- clean mind.
Have goals
Goals are so important. Giving yourself goals is free motivation, and drives you to your academic destination. Goals give a sense of purpose, focus, and convert long-term desires into actionable steps.
Keep your goals simple, but effective. “I need to get this project done in 2 weeks” is not a goal. “I want to work on this project for 30 minutes today, and get A. B. & C. done” is a goal. Give yourself little steps to get things done, it makes the process feel less overwhelming.
Have a balance
Yes work is important. But if you solely focus on academics, your mind will fill with stress and pressure.
Have fun!!! Do things you love and enjoy, free your mind. A healthy balance is key to success. Don’t have any hobbies? Engage in school clubs/activities. There’s plenty to choose from, and it actually benefits you academically, win-win!
If being social is your thing, try to make room for friends and family. Those connections can really help get through our busy lives. Get out there, take time for yourself even. Go outside, watch a movie. You need to take breaks every once in a while, as long as you know when to take those breaks you’ll be alright. Just don’t overdo it!
