Launched by Monster Beverage Corp, FLRT is a new female-focused, sugarfree energy drink. With 200mg of caffeine and 10 calories per 12oz can, the brand features 4 different flavors; Guava Lava (sweet guava), Berry Tempting (mixed berries), Strawberry Fling (strawberry cream/floral), and Sunset Squeeze (tropical/pineapple).
I feel as though it’s a little odd for an energy drink to be anything other than gender neutral? Presumably trying to compete with brands such as Alani Nu, FLRT is heavy on gaining attention from a female crowd.
Design-wise, I find the cans cute in a way but very basic. I don’t quite understand what the goal here was… what’s so different about this drink compared to others? Flavor-wise, I find them very lackluster and a little basic? The strawberry, berry, and sunset all tasted like any other energy drink to me. However, the guava was a favorite of mine simply because there aren’t many good guava-flavored energy drinks.
Though the drinks are okay taste-wise, I don’t think FLRT is a top choice for me. I probably won’t find myself reaching for them unless I crave a good guava flavor. Some part of me just can’t get behind the idea of marketing a drink towards a specific gender! The whole concept of this drink lacks creativity in my opinion. Monster should go back to the drawing board for ideas…
