This year, I have made it my goal to watch at least 52 movies – one for every week. As of April 28, 2026, I have watched around 30 movies, with most them being new movies. These are my favorite new movies so far:
- The Moment
The Moment (2026) is Charli xcx’s first movie, and is a mockumentary about a pop star navigating the difficulties that come with being a part of the music industry. This movie hasn’t been received very well, but I found it funny and unique. I enjoyed the story and liked the cinematography. (In-depth review)
- Fear Street Trilogy
Technically, these are 3 different movies, but they have an overarching plot throughout all three. The movies follow a group of teenagers who discover that an ancient evil is responsible for a series of murders in their town, Shadyside. My favorite of the three is the third movie. These movies got me to watch more horror movies as they aren’t very scary. The plot was good, and I liked the twist in the final movie.
- The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) is one of the most popular horror movies, and after I watched it, I could tell why. I thought it would be very gory, but most of the gore was just blood. It also didn’t have jumpscares, but it still was scary. This movie was definitely different from what I typically watch – the only reason I watched it was because it was going to leave Netflix, but I still enjoyed it.
- Project Hail Mary
Many people have praised Project Hail Mary (2026), calling it the new Interstellar. While I wouldn’t compare the two movies, Project Hail Mary has all the components of a good movie: good acting, satisfying music, great cinematography, an interesting plot, and characters you care about. Watching this movie in a theater was such a good choice, and I encourage anyone who hasn’t seen this movie to watch it in theaters while you still can. (In-depth review)
- Drop Dead Gorgeous
Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999) is actually underrated, it’s crazy. I don’t know why I haven’t heard more people talk about it, it’s really funny, and the plot is really interesting. The movie is a mockumentary about a small-town beauty pageant, where some of the competitors are willing to do anything to win. It has a great cast, and I was entertained the entire time. As of right now, it is free on Youtube, so anyone who has the time (90 minutes) should watch it immediately.
Overall, I think watching more movies have made my life better, and I am looking forward to watching evene more.
