In light of recent news, Green Day will be kicking off the Super Bowl this year at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara with an opening ceremony performance. With Bad Bunny as the halftime show, there has been quite the political uproar about these guest performers. 

Green Day, the rock legends that will be kicking off the 60th annual Super Bowl, formed in Berkeley, California in 1986, including Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool are Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, and five-time Grammy award winners. “We are super hyped to open Super Bowl 60 right in our backyard!” said Armstrong when asked about the performance. 

Although many are getting hype for this performance, as well as Bad Bunny’s, many have a lot to say about their anti-Trump political views. The band is well known for having anti-establishment views regarding Trump’s U.S policies. Armstrong has said the U.S was “slipping into fascism” a day before the “No Kings” protests in 2025. 

Not only did the announcement of Green Day’s opening performance spike controversy, When Bad Bunny was revealed as the 2026 Super Bowl performer, conservative outrage exploded. Many have said things like they would prefer an American Artist, disregarding the fact Bad Bunny is Puerto Rican.
