The Met Gala is one of the biggest events of the year- it’s a time for celebrities to show off their fashion sense, all while raising money for the non-profit museum, the Met. This year, it took place on Monday, May 4th, 2026, with the theme “Fashion is Art”.
But First… A little bit of background
The Met Gala was started by Elanor Lambert in 1948, as a way to raise money for the costume department of the Met. Over time, the Met Gala evolved into what it is today- a celebrity driven event with themes dictating outfits. What began as a high society event turned into an invite-only event – all led by Anna Wintour, former editor-in-chief of Vogue. She decides everything about the gala- who attends, what the theme is, and so forth.
The Looks
This year was one for the books. A lot of celebrities actually showed up to the event on-theme, where in years past many attendees strayed from the theme. While not everyone was on theme, most were, and there were some great looks!
One of the most talked about attendees of the night was Beyoncé, in a studded skeleton like dress and matching crown, with a stunning feather train. Beyonce hasn’t attended the Met Gala since 2016, and this time, she was accompanied by her daughter, Blue Ivy. Blue Ivy wore a white Balenciaga bubble dress and $5,000 heels. She, at 14, is the youngest person to attend the Met Gala.
Alongside Beyonce, there were many stars who attended the gala, including Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, whom, for once, were not on theme. Sabrina Carpenter arrived in a dress made almost entirely of film strips from the 1954 movie Sabrina. Youtube star Emma Chamberlain stunned in a hand painted Mugler dress and Heated Rivalry stars Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie both walked the red carpet.
Other impressive looks of the nights included Lisa of Blackpink, in custom Robert Wun. She wore a slightly sheer embroidered dress with phantom hands rising from her shoulders and draping a veil over her face. Joining Lisa at the Met Gala was the rest of BLACKPINK, with Jennie in Chanel, Jisoo in custom Dior, and Rose in custom Saint Laurent.
In one of the funnier moments of the night, Bad Bunny showed up dressed as an old man. While he did have a regular black tux, he really stuck to the theme of art!
One of the most memorable looks was Eileen Gu, who wore a hand made bubble dress, from designer Iris van Herpen. Her dress consisted of hundreds of hand made glass bubbles- and in the most surprising feature of the dress- it actually blew bubbles!
Personally, I love watching the gala happen every year, even though I don’t know
everything about fashion. I thought so many of the attendees rocked the theme- especially stars like Emma Chamberlin and Lisa. It’s definitely worth re-watching, because it’s so fun to see all the looks. To see them all, you can rewatch the Met Gala on Vogue or reading articles on Vogue can really sum up all the amazing looks!
