Olivia Rodrigo, one of the biggest pop sensations of this generation, is making a long-awaited return. Nearly three years since her last album release, Rodrigo has announced that her new album, ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love’ is set to release on June 12, 2026. With one single announcement, all new merch, and easter eggs from the singer, fans can expect an Olivia Rodrigo Summer!
On April 7th, less than a week after the album announcement, Rodrigo announced the name of the first single, ‘drop dead,’ which will be released on April 17th. Before the official announcement, Rodrigo sparked fan theories about this single by posting videos of pink heart lockets being placed across the world on Instagram, which, combined, read the song’s release date and title. After the confirmation of the single, she then posted an Instagram reel containing a snippet of the song and the caption saying, “i hope you never finish that beer.” What this means is not yet confirmed, but many fans speculate that it could potentially be a lyric from the upcoming single/the album.
As far as what the album might sound like, Rodrigo was on the cover of British Vogue, where she got into her upcoming album, saying, “I’ve found a lot of inspiration from being in London,” “I’ve spent so much time here over the course of making this album. It was a creative challenge to write from a joyful place,” she says. “When you’re experiencing that you’re connected to someone, or feeling really good, you’re not in your head thinking about bittersweet poems!” During this same interview, Rodrigo also confirmed that the album would contain ‘sad love songs,’ which is a bit different from the sad, angsty style she’s had on her previous two albums.
Purple has always been Olivia’s signature color, with her last two albums being a mix of light and dark purples. That was until this album, which appears to be more pinks and blues and less purples and reds. The album cover itself contains an image of Rodrigo swinging upside down with a pink dress on and a blue background.
On April 2nd, the day Rodrigo announced the album, she also dropped all new merch on her website. Starting with signed CDs and vinyls, that expectedly sold out very quickly, the cd within minutes. There are many other variants of the CD and vinyl on the website that are still available for pre-order. That with many items of clothing, with the album cover or promotional images/messages for the album! Check out the website while those are still available for pre-order, and tune into the brand new album this summer!
