The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, the latest installment of the “Hunger Games” franchise, is set to hit theaters on November 20th, 2026. With the full cast announcements, the recent trailer release, and a confirmed release date, fans have a lot to look forward to in the year leading up to the release.
The film “Sunrise on the Reaping,” based on the book of the same name that was released in 2025, takes place during the 50th Annual Hunger Games, 24 years before the first book. The story follows a young Haymich Abernathy after being selected in the reaping to compete in the Games. These specific games take place during a Quarter Quell, meaning twice the amount of tributes will be reaped. In the film, 48 children in total will fight to the death.
As far as the cast goes, the film stars Elle Fanning as a young Effie Trinket, Ralph Fiennes as President Coriolanus Snow, Kieran Culkin will play Caesar Flickerman, and Jesse Plemons will play a younger version of Plutarch Heavensbee. Kelvin Harrison Jr., Glenn Close, Mckenna Grace, Maya Hawke, Billy Porter, Ben Wang, Whitney Peak, Molly McCann, Iona Bell, and Percy Daggs IV are also among the cast.
“Sunrise on the Reaping” is directed by Francis Lawrence and is a screenplay written by Billy Ray. Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson will also return as producers of the film. The trailer that was just recently released on November 20th, 2025, shows a first look at what these games will hold. In the trailer, you can find Haymich Abernathy entering the 50th annual Hunger Games along with 47 other tributes, where they will brutally fight to the death. We finally get the highly anticipated first look at the arena (a flowery landscape with poisonous plants) before ending with a haunting quote from the second film, “Catching Fire.” Tune in on November 20th, 2026, to watch these chilling games return to the big screen.
