Premiering on February 25, 2026, Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans is the 50th season of Survivor, and is meant to celebrate the show’s 25th anniversary, commemorate the show’s fans, and represent the past 49 seasons.
Preseason
On February 26, 2025, viewers were given the chance to vote on game mechanics and production that would be implemented in the season. The questions were spread out over 4 back-to-back weeks during the airing of Season 48. Fans were able to vote on tribe colors, if the player would get rice, if there would be a final four fire-making, the vote reveal & reunion, the final four challenge, and how helpful advantages would be. They were also able to vote on if there would be a tribe switch, the design of immunity necklaces, if players would be given tribe supplies, how many twists there would be, and if there would be idols.
Since the season is meant to represent all 50 seasons of Survivor, the cast is from previous seasons, spanning all the eras of the show. Some of the more notable names from the list are Jenna Lewis-Dougherty from Borneo, “Q” (Quintavius Burdette) from Survivor 46, Rick Devens from Edge of Extinction, “Ozzy” (Oscar Lusth) from Cook Islands, Micronesia, South Pacific & Game Changers, Cirie Fields from Panama, Micronesia, Heroes vs. Villains & Game Changers, Christian Hubicki from David vs. Goliath, and “Coach” (Benjamin Wade) from Tocantins, Heroes vs. Villains & South Pacific.
Episode 1: “Epic Party”
After Jeff Probst welcomed the castaways, the three tribes of 8 were formed: Vatu, Kalo, & Cila, and the first tribe challenge started. In order to win the challenge, players had to crawl under a beam to retrieve a key, then use this key to unlock paddles. After that, two players had to unload rope from a boat, while two others paddled the boat to get a locked torch, then paddled back. Two more players then had to retrieve a key from a pole, using this key to unlock the torch. The first tribe to light this torch on fire would win. Vatu won, earning their tribe flint, which they could use to light a fire.
In the second challenge, each tribe had to choose one player to go on a journey where they would represent their tribe and try to win their tribe’s supplies. Kalo nominated Coach, Cila nominated Ozzy, and Vatu nominated Q. In the challenge, players had to get three bags of sticks and twine by climbing a pole, digging in sand, and swimming to a buoy. Once done, players had to use these supplies to create a long pole, using this to knock a key off a hook on top of a large pole. The player who received the key would win supplies for their tribe. This challenge proved to be extremely difficult, as the players spent a long time attempting to get the key. Ozzy announced that if someone was able to get the key, he would give them the victory, and Q agreed. Eventually, Ozzy was able to knock the key off the pole, but Coach grabbed the key first, winning the challenge, and upsetting Ozzy, as he thought they had an agreement. Since Ozzy and Q lost, they had to stay on the island (Exile Island). The next morning, they were told that one of them would have to give up their vote to receive supplies, while the other would get an extra vote. Q gave up his vote, so he got supplies, and Ozzy gained an extra vote.
The third challenge was the immunity challenge. The tribe that lost would have to vote one of its members out during Tribal Council. In the challenge, tribes had to climb cargo nets, then crawl through a mud tunnel. Two players had to push a cage filled with coconuts to a platform, where two more players would unload the cage. Another player had to throw coconuts into a net to release a crate containing a weighted rope and ball, which a player would use the rope and ball to activate a lever, releasing a ramp. After all tribe members climbed the ramp, the final two players would have to assemble a puzzle. The first two tribes to complete the challenge would win immunity. During the challenge, there was a short pause when Kyle (Vatu) injured his foot, but the challenge continued after Kylie said he was okay. Kalo and Vatu won the challenge, meaning that Cila had to vote someone out. Jenna threw out Cirie’s name, claiming that she was an exceptional player, and if they didn’t get her out now, she would run the game later. Ozzy, Cirie’s ally, warned Cirie, and she was able to convince the rest of the tribe to vote Jenna, making Jenna the first person voted out of Survivor 50.
On Day 4, Stephenie and Genevieve (Vatu) found the “Billie Eilish Boomerang Idol”. The premise of the immunity idol is to give someone on another tribe, who could only use the idol on themselves. If the recipient did not use the idol and was voted off with it, the idol would “boomerang” its way back to Genevieve, the one who found it. Genevieve decided to gift the idol to Ozzy.
The final challenge was the journey challenge. Colby (Vatu), Mike (Kalo), and Savannah (Cila) were chosen by their tribes for the challenge, but since only two could compete, Mike had to return to his tribe. Savannah and Colby had to stack rocks, alternating turns until someone knocked the tower over. Savannah won, winning a block-a-vote advantage. Since Colby lost, he lost his vote.
Overall, the premiere was entertaining, and the season looks to be one of the better seasons of the new era. Episode 2, “Therapy Carousel”, aired on March 4, 2026, and episode 3, “Did You Vote For A Swap?” will air on March 11, 2026. Watch Survivor episode on Paramount+ or CBS for free.
