Conan Gray’s Wishbone World Tour began in Minneapolis on February 19th. His second show was on February 21st in Fishers, Indiana. Since it wasn’t too far away, my cousins and I decided to go.
The Opener
The opener for the show was Esha Tewari. I had only heard about her because of my friend, so I didn’t know any of her music. However, her performance was very entertaining, and it actually prompted me to check out her music. She performed for about half an hour.
The Concert
After waiting for around thirty minutes after the opener, Conan came onstage to ‘My World’. He then sang through twenty of his hits (primarily from Wishbone), sorted into four themed “acts.”
Act 1, “a wishbone never breaks even,” was fairly upbeat and featured songs like ‘Care’ and ‘Wish You Were Sober’, while Act 2, “i got the short end of the stick” was sadder and featured songs like ‘People Watching’ and ‘The Cut that Always Bleeds’. Act 3 was called “i took the long way to realization” and featured mainly his most emotional songs, including ‘Family Line’ and ‘Connell’. The final act, “i wished for love and i found it” included most of his hits, like ‘Actor’ and ‘Vodka Cranberry’.
Acts 2 and 3 were broken up by “Conan’s Campfire,” where Conan plays a different song completely acoustic for each concert. The song he played at ours was ‘Comfort Crowd’, and this moment served as a nice break after lots of noise and flashing lights.
Conan also continued with the tradition he started during The Wishbone Pajama Show, in which he breaks a wishbone with a fan in order to choose a special song.
Special Surprises
Part of the way through Act 3, Conan played an unreleased song titled “The Best,” with lyrics onscreen so fans could sing along. He also played more dialogue from the music videos, which makes me think he might be hinting at a Wishbone Deluxe.
After Vodka Cranberry, Conan said it was his last song and ran offstage with his band, but after about 2 minutes, they all came back and performed 2 encore songs, ‘Memories’ and ‘Caramel’.
My Review
I really enjoyed the concert. Conan did an incredible job, and the theming and set were amazing. It felt like experiencing a summer day, with sets featuring boats, bicycles, and stars. The stage was even shaped like a wishbone.
Conan Gray is probably my favorite artist, but seeing him in person was even better than I expected. His vocals were incredible, and I’d say most of the songs he sang were even better than the studio version. He also interacted with the fans a lot, and it really felt like a great community of people.
It was an unforgettable experience, and I would definitely recommend going to the Wishbone World Tour if you ever get the chance.
