The iconic 2000s fashion movie, The Devil Wears Prada, is getting its first sequel on May 1st, and fans are more than excited to see it. Original stars Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and even Stanley Tucci have returned to their roles as Miranda Priestly, Andy Sachs, Emily, and Nigel, respectively. With such an unforgettable cast and storyline, fans are excited to see what they’ve done 20 years later.
The plot of the sequel will follow Miranda as she struggles with the decline in traditional magazine printing, and her former employee, Emily, is now working for a high-end, luxury company that has all the money she needs. Andy and Emily will supposedly reunite as two of the top magazine editors, while Miranda will find a way back into Andy’s life after the original movie’s end.
The original movie, which is based on the book, The Devil Wears Prada, by Laura Weisberger, follows Andy, who has never worked a professional job before, becoming Miranda’s assistant at a top magazine company, Runway. Andy struggles to balance her job and personal life throughout the movie, but eventually finds her way in the very cutthroat world of fashion.
With the first movie grossing $326 million at the global box office, people are expecting a lot out of the second film, too. What fans are scared of is the sequel dimming the spark that the first movie has. Blunt herself told People Magazine back in 2018 that sometimes sequels are what ruin a franchise, but nevertheless, we’ll get to see if that is really true in theaters in May.
