Ayo Dosunmu was recently traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Dosunmu and Julian Phillips got traded to the Wolves, with the Bulls getting Rob Dillingham, Leonard Miller, and four second-round picks. Dosunmu is in his 5th year and is having the best year of his career. Ayo with the Bulls, didn’t find much success in the organization and didn’t exactly fit their roster. Coming to the Timberwolves is a great fit for Ayo. Coming into this year, the Wolves were running the Point Guard with Mike Conley and Bones Hyland. Mike Conley has had a horrendous year for the Wolves, and Bones has been decent given his limited minutes.
The Wolves knew they had to get a solid ball handler, and they did just that. Ayo Dosunmu with the Bulls this year averaged 15.0 PPG(points per game), 51.4 FG%, 45.1% 3PT%, and 3.6 assists per game. This gives the Wolves a 3rd quality scorer, with Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle leading the scoring. The Wolves have really struggled with turnovers during clutch time. Dosunmu can really turn that around with his excellent 1.4 turnovers per game on the Bulls this year.
Dosunmu was great in his second game as a Timberwolf. He dropped a strong 21 points and 3 assists on the court against the Hawks. He shot a great 9/13 from the field in the February 9th game. The one-two punch of flashy players like Ayo Dosunmu and Bones Hyland will be crucial to the Wolves’ success. Having strong point guards to manage the game and make strong decisions is a great trait to have. Adding another good scorer can be massive for this team that has been inconsistent and struggled to generate offense. It will be interesting to see if Minnesota can make a deep run in the playoffs.
