Dennis Rodman will have his jersey retired by the Chicago Bulls, the NBA team said shortly after the jersey retirement of Derrick Rose. The Hall of Famer and defensive legend will be honored against the Brooklyn Nets, with the ‘96 Bulls team expected to be in attendance. Dennis Rodman’s fellow teammates, Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, are expected to be in attendance for Rodman due to his being a big reason that the Bulls were so successful.
Rodman played three seasons for the Bulls. He was a part of the famous second three-peat, winning three championships from 1996 to 1998. Rodman led the league in rebounding all three years and was a big part of the reason the Bulls achieved 72 regular-season wins and only 10 losses in 1996. Not only did he lead them to arguably the best regular season record in the NBA, but he was also part of the most dominant trio in the NBA alongside six time NBA champion Michel Jordan and Scottie Pippen.
While Rodman’s time on the Bulls is a very controversial topic due to him kicking a cameraman on the sideline, not showing up to practice, going out to Vegas partying, and a lot more, this was all overlooked due to the cultural impact that he made not only on the court but also off the court. His personality made him unique, but he was adored by many people. The Bulls decided not to retire Rodman’s number due to these reasons, but also because, as an organization, Rodman was only a piece of a puzzle rather than someone who impacted the franchise. It seems like they have changed their mind’s. Further news is yet to come about Dennis Rodman’s retirement, but this has sparked a reaction around the city of Chicago.
