Golden State Warriors star forward Jimmy Butler was helped off the court during Monday’s game, Warriors Vs Heat. ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that he suffered a torn ACL and that his season is over.
The injury happened in the third quarter after Butler caught a pass in the paint. This led to Butler landing awkwardly on his right leg, which caused him to fall on the ground. While on the ground, you can see him clutching his right knee, causing the Warriors’ coach, Steve Kerr, to call a Timeout to check on Butler. Jimmy Butler was eventually able to leave the court with the help of his two teammates, saying he couldn’t put weight on his right knee. After Butler’s exit, the Warriors announced that he would not be returning to the game. They later said he would undergo an MRI. Hours after the game ended, it was concluded that he tore his ACL. His injury has worried a lot of people because he has two significant injuries to the same knee earlier in his career.
How Does The Injury Effect The Warriors?
Jimmy Butler, at 36 years old, is playing at a high level, so seeing him get injured is a blow for the Warriors. In the games before getting injured, he’s averaged 20.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 51.9% from the field and 38.1% from 3. With Butler and Curry leading, their team holds a 25-19 record. Butler getting injured leaves them with a slim chance of competing in the West.
