2025 was a year like no other- with changes in politics, the rise of annoying phrases, and economic downturn. In the fashion industry, many big fashion companies introduced new creative directors, including Matthieu Blazy at Chanel, Jonathan Anderson at Dior, and Sarah Burton at Givenchy. These new artists set the tone for the year, with their personal-style driven shows influencing the world and the fashion trends of 2025.
The Labubu Craze (Demonic Dolls?)
Whether you were a millennial or Gen-z, you couldn’t escape these furry monsters. With the rise of bag charms in 2024, the Labubus became the newest feature to bag accessories in 2025. While the craze died down by the end of the year, the dolls continue to be sold out throughout the world.
Sheer Dresses/Garments
One of the most popular celebrity fashion styles this past year was the sheer dresses. These dresses were commonly sheer, skin-tight dresses, with a variation of undergarments underneath. Starting in early 2025 at the Golden Globes, the trend evolved throughout the year, as it started to feature in men’s fashion, with see-through shirts. This look was featured on many celebrities, including Sabrina Carpenter, Dakota Johnson, Mia Goth, and Margot Robbie.
Performative Male (AKA Quarter Zips)
With the rise of men’s fashion in the past couple of years, the “performative male” aesthetic became popular in 2025. This trend calls out men who dress and act in a way that feels almost fake, as if they are performing the actions. The most prominent feature of this aesthetic is wearing a quarter zip and drinking a matcha latte while listening to music or reading. While many don’t actually try to be a performative male, there was a rise in wearing quarter zips, especially for boys in their teens.
Shopping at the thrift
In 2025, the tariffs on goods, especially clothes, rose as President Donald Trump stepped into office. Because of this, the view of consuming clothes changed. Instead of constantly getting new clothes from more expensive brands, consumers shifted back into thrifting. Shopping at thrift stores became a sort of trend- buying more for less, which shifted consumer minds from buying to saving money.
Loss of actual trends
Overall, in 2025, there was no actual set fashion trend that people were following. In previous years, especially 2022-2024, there were a lot of micro trends – niche fashion trends that got really popular, and became a set style. Examples of micro trends are the office siren trend, polka dot everything, and so many others. Yet, when looking at 2025, there is no set trend that exists. Instead, the internet was focused on personal style, and with the rise in the cost of fashion, didn’t seem to want to invest in a new trend. This sets the tone for 2026, when we might see a fall of constant consumerism and a rise of styling what you own.
