Athlete Spotlight: Nevaeh Dean

December 16, 2019

Anyone who knows Nevaeh Dean knows the amount of work and determination she puts into everything she does. Since a young age, Nevaeh has worked tirelessly at improving her basketball game and becoming a star player on the Lakota West Women’s basketball team. Just this season, as a senior, Nevaeh Dean has helped lead her team to a 3-2 start, going 3-0 in league matches. As the power guard and center of the team, Neveah oftentimes is responsible for getting the rebounds, which was certainly true in Saturday night’s game against Colerain when she came down with nine rebounds. When asked about the current season, Nevaeh told me that she and her team have “many goals but they focus on one [game] at a time.”

Nevaeh Dean has many expectations for this upcoming season and claims that she and her team have “a lot of people to prove wrong” when it comes to their performance. The girls basketball team has been a dominant force in not only the state of Ohio the past several years but the entire nation. Dean merely wants to see that streak continued by coming home with another GMC championship and continuing on into the postseason. Not only does Nevaeh put up stats during games, Coach Andy Fishman claims she is the “glue and nails of the team,” doing anything that needs to be done on and off the court. Even with all of the goals and expectations, Neveah’s number one priority is to “maintain the programs standards” and “grow as a team.”

Dean has already punched her ticket for after high school to Virginia Tech, a major contender in the Atlantic Coast Conference to continue her basketball career where she says she “can’t wait to play, be on [her] own and go on all the journeys with [her] teammates.” With the mentality and work ethic that she has, there is no doubt she will do incredible things for the program at Virginia Tech.

So, whenever you have the opportunity, be sure to check out a basketball game at Lakota West and see Nevaeh Dean dominate the court.
