The U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement, more commonly known as “ICE,” has exhibited acts of violence and brutality against Americans and non-citizens, contradicting its original purpose to keep America safe. The agency is funded by the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” which has been enforced by President Trump’s administration, increasing ICE’s funding, budget, and staffing by over 120%. As of 2026, and only one month into the new year, ICE has taken the lives of 6 individuals being held in an adult detention center (a place where the deportees are kept). 1. Heber Sanchaz Domínguez: Age 34, found hanging in his cell. 2. Victor Manuel Diaz (36) : was found “unresponsive” and ICE says was a “presumed suicide”. 3. Parady La (46) : suffered from anoxic brain, organ failure (multiple), post cardiac arrest, drug withdrawals, and family members stated he was “vomiting, begging for help, begging for water, and wasn’t given water” at the Federal Detention Center in Center City Philadelphia. 4. Luis Beltran Yanez–Cruz (68): Chest pains, hospitalized. 5. Luis Gustavo Nunez Caceres (42): Heart failure. 6. Geraldo Lunas Campos (55): Choked by law enforcement. The Washington Post claims a witness told them that he was saying he could not breath “No puedo respirar.” All of these victims died under the watch of ICE, not including the 30 people who passed in detention centers in 2025.
In recent news, ICE has been terrorizing the streets of Minnesota. Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old nurse, will be the second U.S citizen to be murdered in cold blood by an immigration agent. The first being Renee Nicole Good, also 37 years old, also a resident of Minnesota. There was no illegal activity when the federal officers pulled their firearms out and shot at the victims. Alex Petti was not only shot several times, but before that, was pushed to the ground by a group of agents, then hit in the head with a gun repeatedly, kicked and punched, and later, shot ten times in the span of five seconds (The New York Times).
ICE has gotten to the point of taking other ICE agents off duty due to prejudice, and not realizing they were officers themselves; they’ve detained children as young as 5 years old, people who have their green card, those who are residents and born in America, the elderly, and the youth. ICE is the bully of our nation. How many fatalities will it take until someone puts an end to this violence? It’s understood that there’s a problem of illegal immigrants in America, and the risk of “bad” people being able to come into the nation and attack. But the system right now is unlawful, immoral, and mean. When will it stop?
