As we are getting closer to the warmer weather, people are taking it upon themselves to start working out. The big thing in 2025 is Pilates! People tend to confuse yoga and Pilates as one thing but they are not. Yoga and Pilates are very similar but not the same thing.
Yoga
Yoga is a spiritual and physical practice to improve your mental heath. It focuses on breathing techniques, body postures, and relaxation. Therefore, this is not a “work out” based thing. People use yoga for a mindset. Many people do it after a workout to cool down and focus on their mindset. Many say it helps bring your mind and body to one. Yoga started over 5,000 years ago as an ancient art. The word yoga comes from another language meaning “to join”.
Pilates
Pilates is a workout made to strengthen your core. It uses the back, abdomen, hips, and pelvis muscles. Pilates also uses breathing techniques similar to yoga, but not quite the same. Pilates was made to be more of a workout and was focused on getting stronger muscles. Many people use Pilates as a form of rehab if once injured to get them back into working out again. Pilates was brought to the USA in 1926 as a body conditioning workout. It began getting more popular in the 1970s-1980s.
Yoga and Pilates are two different things. One focuses on your mind and body, whereas the other is a workout to improve your overall physical health. These can be done one after the other or just one. Whether you are looking for a nice relaxing metal break or a hard core workout, one of these should do the trick.
