Lakota West is home to many talented athletes, but attention often goes to the upperclassmen or those who participate in more popular sports like football and basketball. While there are certainly skilled players in these sports, it’s important to recognize that there are also other exceptionally gifted athletes within the school. For example, talented freshman runner and soccer player: Adex Scherzinger.
Scherzinger is a talented high school freshman at Lakota West, only fourteen years old, and is already making a name for himself. Earning a varsity letter in cross country and being a member of the junior varsity soccer team during his freshman year, he has had an extremely successful sports career so far and his stats are there to back this up. Scherzinger landed himself on the 2nd team all conference for cross country and was the second leading scorer for his soccer team.
However, for those athletes that want to continue their sports career after high school, sports isn’t the only thing that matters. Academics play a huge role in whether or not colleges will be interested in certain athletes or not. Scherzinger has proven that this won’t ever be a problem when being recruited. He stands out from the others with a 4.6 weighted GPA, ranking 61 in his class. Scherzinger says that, “Although the sport is important to me, the people that I’ve met through sports are what make all the hard work worth it.”
