When thinking about talented Lakota West athletes, sophomore Adelyn Twyman should come to mind. Twyman is a 2 time varsity letter winner, from both her freshman year playing softball, and her sophomore year playing volleyball.
Twyman is a powerhouse middle blocker for Lakota West, standing at 6 ‘1 and touching 9’ 7; she often towers over her opponents. With a total of 33 blocks over a 22-game season, Twyman landed herself 13th overall in the Greater Miami Conference (GMC). Despite being an underclassman, Twyman was not only an absolute unit when it comes to blocking, but also an extremely effective hitter, racking up 141 kills: the highest for Lakota West’s 2024 season. Twyman ended her season being recognized by the GMC, placing second team all-conference, with an honorable mention from Cincinnati Enquirer volleyball all-stars for the all city team.
Not only is Twyman excelling both on the court and the field, but she is also excelling in the classroom. Twyman is taking all honors classes, ending her freshman year in high honor roll while really utilizing every opportunity she has as a student.
When interviewed by the West Press, Twyman said, “School is my top priority even when the schedule gets tough. While I don’t miss practices or games, I make sure to complete my work”. Twyman says this is how she maintains her stellar 4.6 GPA and 30th class rank. “I have learned that I must find balance in my schedule in order to have a good social, athletic, and academic life”.
Twyman is looking to accomplish much more as a student athlete, wanting to, “acquire a doctorate degree and get my masters in occupational therapy” and that she would, “love to continue volleyball in college”. She says she is accomplishing this goal by attending camps and sending out emails to college coaches. Being a massive Ohio sports fan, Twyman says she would love to go to a school like Ohio State University or the University of Cincinnati.
When asked if she had any advice for younger athletes looking to be a successful student athlete such as herself, Twyman says that young athletes should, “keep striving to get better no matter the situation. Determination and discipline are the key to becoming a great athlete”. Twyman says that for her personally, she likes to “work by the idea that there is always a way to win, and all you have to do is find it”.
