Police Beat: Ninth Edition

In this month’s edition, we’ll be covering a carjacking in Ross Township, two investigations for an Oxford police officer, and an SUV crashing into a UDF.
Police Beat: Ninth Edition

Ross Township Car Jacking

A woman was assaulted after someone carjacked her in Ross Township.

She was buying lottery tickets at a local Marathon gas station when she saw a man running towards her as she exited the gas station, and that’s when he snatched her keys. She fought back without a second thought but was pushed to the ground. As she tried pulling on the driver’s door he said, “See ya,” and drove off. However she is grateful for one thing, “I’m just very glad to be alive right now.” The car is a 2003 Chevy Silverado with an Ohio License plate, 391ZPY. Ross Township Police are still looking for the suspect who was last seen wearing a black jacket, and a grey shirt. If you have any information contact Ross Township Police at 513-863-2337.

Oxford Police Use of Force Investigation

20-year-old Devin Johnson, a student at Miami University, was recently assaulted during an arrest conducted by Officer Matthew Blauvelt. Johnson was punched three times outside of Brick Street Bar while allegedly ignoring verbal orders and resisting arrest. The police were called because Johnson entered the bar through a side entrance and ignored the staff’s requests. Johnson was then confronted by the bar manager but refused to leave. Brick Street Bar did not have cameras, however, Blauvelt’s body cam was investigated. Blauvelt is placed on paid administrative leave.   The Butler County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation and passed their findings over to the Butler County Prosecutor’s Office which found the officer had used reasonable force during the incident. Johnson is charged with underage possession of alcohol, trespassing, resisting arrest, and assault. Johnson had a pretrial hearing on January 25th and will face a jury on February 28th.

SUV Crashes into UDF

A UDF in Fairfield Township is damaged due to an SUV crash that happened on January 4th at around 4:30 pm. The driver did have a child in the backseat of the car as well. The driver was allegedly driving at high speeds in a parking lot, crashed into some bushes, and hit the UDF. The UDF is located on Tylersville Rd. and faces major damages. The driver refused the medical treatment provided and got cited for driving without a license.

Stay tuned for more Police Beats to come later this week!
