In the early morning hours of October 10th, 2025, the Israeli government approved a ceasefire plan, supposedly bringing it into immediate effect. However, it is not clear if the Israeli Prime FaMinister’s Office has given the order to the Israel Defense Forces to cease fire. People around the world were seemingly ecstatic when hearing the “ceasefire” news, believing that it could be possible that the ongoing conflict would finally come to an end. Israel has then violated the truce 80 times since October 10th.
How did Israel violate the ceasefire?
On October 19th, Israel conducted a large wave of airstrikes across Gaza, which killed dozens of innocent Palestinians. However, Israel claimed that this was in response to a Hamas attack that ended in the deaths of two Israeli soldiers, which Hamas later denied. Then, also on October 19th, Israel limited humanitarian aid deliveries and kept the Rafah crossing closed. They stated that it depended on Hamas returning deceased Israeli captives, which was considered a violation by Hamas and the United Nations. On October 18th, the Gaza media office reported that Israel killed 38 Palestinians in 47 ceasefire violations, including an attack on a bus. Israel responded to this supposed violation by saying that the bus had crossed a demarcation line and that the troops had faced a threat.
Background Information
This isn’t the first time Israel has claimed a ceasefire, or the first time they have violated one. In just 2025 alone, this is already the second supposed ceasefire, with the first beginning in late January. However, Gaza’s Government Media Office reported more than 350 violations by Israel in February. Then, on March 18, Israel launched an air strike, breaking the ceasefire.
Overall, the decade long conflict between Palestine, or most recently Hamas, and Israel is clearly not showing any signs of stopping.
