Homecoming is one of the most anticipated days during the school year for most students, especially those who aren’t old enough to enjoy prom. Many view it as “the high school experience”, where you go to a football game and the next day go out with your friends. It is especially that way here at Lakota West. The week leading up to homecoming, Lakota West Student Government puts together a spirit week so that the whole week is showing school spirit and fun. However, most kids do not participate in the homecoming festivities. Walking into school the week of homecoming, most kids are in their regular clothes, not really dressed up in any way. Not only is that the only thing going on during homecoming week, but also the football game on Friday, the 12th. Many fun things are leading up to homecoming, and then, of course, Homecoming itself.
Homecoming
This year, for the first time in two years, homecoming will take place outside on the football field, whereas in the past two years it has been held inside the gym. Why the change? Well, in the past years, the weather has ruined the chance for homecoming to be outside. Some students think this is going to be more exciting as there will be Kona Ice and fireworks during homecoming. Some think that it will be too hot, and would rather have it inside. Despite this, it will be the first time current juniors and sophomores experience homecoming outside.
Theme
Homecoming, of course, must have a theme. This year, Lakota West Student Government chose to pick Rhythms of Rio, a spin-off of the popular Disney franchise, Rio. What exactly does this entail? According to the decorations around the school, it is meant to showcase a tropical theme, incorporating greens, yellows, purples, and, of course, blue. So if your dress matches any of these colors, you’re in good shape!
Overall, most students look forward to homecoming and all that comes with it, whether they participate or not.
