Here at Firebird Arena on January 24th, 2025 Lakota West and Lakota West East faced off against each other to see who will take home the Lakota trophy. For over 26 years, Lakota East and Lakota West have been battling annually after the split of Lakota in 1998. This made the school into two separate buildings, East and West. Fans, families, and students every year prepare and get ready for this matchup, with almost every game being a sellout previously, this game was no exception.
Varsity Girls
The first game of the night was with the girls at 6:30 PM. Lakota East came right out of the gate scoring 10 pts in the first. Led by Bailey Bacher and Brooke Asher, East was not standing down. It did not look good for West, as they attempted to make a comeback with Kathryn Fox having 14 total points. Overall, the night was a struggle for West, shooting 32%. On the other hand, East shot phenomenally at 50%. West was having a hard time defending their shots. At the end of this game, East won 51-40 and kept their 3rd place in the GMC, dropping West to 4th.
Varsity Boys
For the second match of the night the outcome was a little bit different for West, winning 54-41. Some people would call this win “lucky” but Lakota West says otherwise, shooting over 50% from the three and from the field. Also, with West having stars like LJ Green, Joshua Tyson, and Bryce Curry, Lakota West Head Coach Moss was prepared for the worst. This game wasn’t a walk in the park, with East leading this game 12-8 in the first and having Trey Parry shoot most of East’s shots for the night, East was able to control this game in the first half. In the second half is when the tides turned, especially in the fourth for West. Scoring 35 of the points for West, fans were astonished to see the ending.
