Winter Sports Seasons Coming to an End

Winter Sports Seasons Coming to an End

With the Winter Sports Season coming to an end and Spring airsing, this time can be mixed with a lot of different emotions. Every team can qualify for tournaments but it takes a hard and long fight to see who will make it out with a championship.

The Upsides of Spring Arising

It is time to explore and move on to the next chapter of your life after your winter sport has ended. Sophomore Katie Fox who plays on the girls’ varsity basketball team here at Lakota West is excited to see what these next few spring months will bring.

“I’m excited for spring ball and for having a little bit of a break. Also, I don’t know what to do with my day now that I don’t have to stay after school.”

The Hardships of Having to Say Goodbye

Adapting to a new schedule can be hard especially when you are used to doing the same thing for 3+ months straight.

Senior Lily Johnson tells me she is filled with a lot of different mixed emotions but mainly tears. It is the end of her Senior year and she has been playing Varsity girls basketball for Lakota West all 4 years of her high school career.

“I am going to miss everyone and the relationships but I am happy that some toxic relationships are done and the stress is over.”

She is excited to go on to continue her basketball career at Trine University.

 New Opportunities and Possibilities

With free time on your hands, you may discover a new sport that you might like!

For example sophomore Sydney Williams, a Varsity Lakota West girls varsity player also plays on the Girls Varsity softball team during spring, as well as playing for the Legends U girls AAU team. All of that sounds fun but it can get difficult when trying to manage two sports all year round with no breaks.

“Leaving basketball to play another sport is definitely tough without much of a break. But I feel like playing another sport, especially one that isn’t as harsh on your body after a hard season is definitely refreshing.”

Overall basketball season was great but it is exciting to think about and see what spring and beyond will be like.

You should never be afraid to try something new and expose yourself to new possibilities because you never know if you might end up enjoying it.
