January has arrived and it’s time for girl’s high school basketball. In 1966, in South West Ohio, the GMC Conference was born. The oldest and maybe the best conference in Ohio was established in 1966 with only 6 schools from the start. Then came the arrival of Lakota West and girls basketball. For the past 13 years, Lakota West Girls have been in the top five in the GMC. Out of those 13 years, they have gotten the title 6 times. Currently, Lakota West is ruling the conference, being #3 in the GMC. West’s roster also consists of GMC Assist Leader Kathryn Fox, who averages 4.7 assists per game as well as a strong 80% from the FT line, she is just one of West’s stars. Backed up by Sydney Williams Lakota West junior, Lakota West is fit to go far in rankings and the upcoming playoffs.
Week 9: GMC Rankings
GMC Schools and teams gather for 13 weeks of girls’ basketball every year. Just like last year Lakota West is making themselves present and January will be a time to remember with names like Madison Parrish, Leila Johnson, and Kenadie Benjamin With all this talent, it has made a very unpredictable season. Teams like Mason, Lakota West, and Lakota East have been running this GMC for years but this year might be different. Oak Hills is making their stand this year, being 4-4 in conference play. Lakota West has been hot as of late, winning their last 5 games. This schedule is great for these Firebirds because, at the start of the month, they can warm up against smaller teams building up to face big threats like Lakota East, Oak Hills, and lastly Princeton. All 3 of these teams are top 5 teams in the GMC right now, making the end of January a thrilling time for all fans.
