It was announced last Sunday that Kendrick Lamar will perform at the Super Bowl scheduled on February 9th, 2025 at Caesars Superdome. It’s the American rapper’s second time at the Super Bowl, but it’s his first time headlining alone. The previous time was during the 2022 halftime show while he was alongside Dr Dre, Mary J Blige, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and 50 Cent.
It was revealed during football over the weekend through social media with links to a YouTube video that the rapper would be doing the halftime show. He made a statement about this on the same day: “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one.”
While many are not very surprised that he will be the main performer for this season due to his newest hit “Not Like Us” which was a product of a rap feud with Drake, other fans think that he deserved this much sooner as “Not Like Us” is only one of his many big hits. There is further debate about him being the headliner including the large majority of people who wanted/expected Lil Wayne to headline due to his New Orleans roots and how long he has been in the rap field without a big chance like this.
Even though he gained further popularity due to the rap feud, he has had many larger accomplishments prior. In 2018, he won a Pulitzer Prize for music due to his writing skills. Before his career in rap he studied poetry in college. He has 6 Billboard awards, an Emmy award, 11 MTV video music awards, 17 Grammy awards, and many more.
Even with the Super Bowl being months away and how recent this news is, so many fans are excited to see him finally be a headliner. There are many predictions about the setlist he will pick, which artist he will bring out as a feature, and how he is going to set it up visually and perform in general. But even with so many people at the edge of their seats waiting to find all this out, we won’t officially know until February.
