Owasso High: The Death of Nex

Owasso High: The Death of Nex

On February 7th, Nex Benedict, a nonbinary student at Owasso High School, Oklahoma, was attacked in the women’s restroom. The physical altercation lasted around two minutes before someone broke up the fight. Nex left the restroom with “bruises over their face and eyes and scratches on the back of their head.” As stated by Newsweek.

The following day, Nex collapsed in their home and was immediately rushed to the hospital where they later died. According to Sue Benedict, Nex’s grandmother, they were bullied for around a year before this incident. She stated that she didn’t know it had gotten this bad.

Owasso High School did nothing to help Nex. The OPD said “While it was determined that ambulance service was not required, the school nurse recommended that Nex Benedict visit a medical facility for further examination.”

The transgender community is outraged at the school for refusing to call the police and refusing medical attention for Nex. People are demanding justice for Nex and shaming the school all over social media for their negligence.
