The long-awaited final season of the beloved Netflix series is finally here. Nearly nine years since the debut of the first season, the end of the road for Stranger Things will begin in November. With the official trailer out, release dates, teasers from the cast themselves, and even news of the finale hitting theaters this New Year’s Eve, it’s easy to say this final season will be an emotional ride for fans of the show. Here is everything to know in preparation for season five.
Season five will be broken up into 3 different parts. Volume 1 will premiere on November 26, 2026, Volume 2 on December 25th, and Volume 3 on December 31st. With the release of the final episode being said to be two hours long, it will be shown in select theaters around the U.S and Canada for a limited time. This is a huge deal for fans of the show who recognize that the finale of every season has always been an action-packed tear-jerker, and can only expect the same for an emotional goodbye.
The cast has been seen in interviews over the last few months, all describing the show’s ending to be bittersweet and emotional. Producers Matt and Ross Duffer have spoken about what it has been like watching the cast grow up, as well as the emotional aspect of season five. “It’s our most personal story.’ ‘There was a lot of crying. There was so much crying. Everyone put their hearts and souls into it.” Matt revealed in an interview during the Next on Netflix event.
As far as what the cast has confirmed about the new season, we know characters Will Byer’s played by Noah Schnapp, and Max Mayfield, played by Sadie Sink, will play big roles in the finale. Will has always had a connection with the upside down; the show started with him, and it will end with him. Sadie’s character, Max, was crucial in season four, and the season concluded on a cliff-hanger for her fate after falling into a coma. But in a recent interview for Variety, Sadie practically confirmed she’ll be back up and running in the new season. “They love having me run,” she said.
The official trailer for season five premiered on October 30th, building the excitement and anticipation even further. As fans have begun trying to depict short clips from the trailer, rumors have started to speculate about what will be next for the citizens of Hawkins as they take on one final battle. Will they defeat Vecna once and for all? You can tune in on November 26th to watch the battle begin.
