On Friday, September 19th, 2025, the Lakota West Firebirds lost their second consecutive game, 10-7, to the Fairfield Indians.
Homecoming Heroics
The Fairfield Indians came into the game vs Lakota West as heavy underdogs, after losing to the Firebirds last season 50-14 and finishing the season 2-9. The Firebirds, on the other hand, came into the season with high expectations after finishing last season 11-2 with a trip to the regional semifinals. However, in their annual homecoming game, the Indians had an extra spark and stunned Lakota West 10-7.
A night to remember for Stone Butler
The storyline of the night was the intense defense of the Indians, highlighted by the junior Lakota West transfer Stone Butler. Butler had been a backup quarterback for the Firebirds and decided to change positions at Fairfield, where he’s had an increase in production as a defensive back, with 11 tackles on the season. Friday night was the “breakout” game for the rising star, who recorded six tackles, one tackle for loss, and one interception.
Offense non-existent for the Firebirds
Lakota West struggled to move the ball all night long vs Fairfield, outside of Kenyon Norman’s three-yard touchdown in the first quarter. From that point on, it was flat-out ugly for the Firebirds. The absence of star WR Tyson Davis was a huge blow for the Firebirds, and forced Jackson Smith into difficult throws. Fairfield’s consistent pressure created an uncomfortable environment for the offense, especially with the noise of the student section.
Looking Ahead
Lakota West (2-3) will take on Middletown (5-0) at home next week in a big-time GMC matchup. It’s do-or-die time for the Firebirds, who desperately need a win.
