The newest Superman movie, directed by James Gunn, was released in theaters on July 11th, 2025. The film has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 83% and a Popcornmeter of 91%. Some actors featured include David Corenswet as Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Rachal Brosnahan as Lois Lane, as well as actors Anothey Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi, and Isabela Merced.
The plot follows Superman, trying to deal with his Kryptonian heritage as he lives on Earth, known as the reporter Clark Kent. As new adversaries arise, and public opinion dips south, Superman must grapple with his own morals vs. the judgment of public figures.
Many people who have watched the movie come out of the theaters in love with it. The cinematography was bright and imaginative, and the emotions were portrayed in a realistic way that touched the hearts of the audience. Older DC fans are in limbo, however, because they believe older versions of Superman were better than the new one, such as Henry Cavill or Christopher Reeve. Others believe that this character has just been portrayed too many times, since this is the twelfth Superman to come to the screen.
There are also two scenes in the movie that were filmed in Cincinnati, making fans from Ohio very excited. The main location in Cincinnati was Union Terminal, which was used as the Hall of Justice in the film and the comics. There was also a scene featuring the Cleveland Guardians’ field, Progressive Field, and The Cleveland Arcade, which is an old indoor shopping mall.
Personally, I highly recommend this movie, even if you have never watched any DC movies previously. It was very heartwarming and funny to watch. I think that the actors portrayed their characters well and were able to express the complexity that comes with everyday life. Hopefully, we’ll see these characters return to the screen again.
