Almost exactly two years from now, in May, Ryan Gosling is set to be cast as a main character in another upcoming Star Wars movie, Starfighter.
Director of Deadpool and Wolverine, Shawn Levy, will be directing the new film. The movie will take place approximately five years after Episode 9: Rise of Skywalker. According to the Star Wars website, production will start in the fall of 2025 and should arrive in theaters by Memorial Day of 2027.
Rumors were speculating that Gosling auditioned for Adam Driver’s role (Kylo Ren) back in 2015 for the film The Force Awakens. Ultimately, he didn’t get the part, but clearly had somewhat of a rebuttal ten years later. Gosling himself expresses his excitement for this production in recent interviews at the Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo. He states that, “this script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters.”
Hayden Christensen, who plays Anakin Skywalker in the prequels, talks briefly about this new production in an interview, saying that he had dinner with Gosling. He explains the movie star is “really excited to now be in the Star Wars family”. Christensen himself said that he’s excited for his film; “I think it’s gonna be really great.”
Although not a lot of information about this production has been released to the public just yet, hopefully more will become available soon when productions and promotion starts in the next couple of years.
