Upcoming singer, Gigi Perez, known for her single,”Sailor Song”, released a new album on Friday, April 25th.
Gigi Perez is a 25-year-old Cuban singer who has a surprisingly deep alto voice, especially for a female singer. Before her newest album, she previously had a viral hit that resulted in a major record deal, a new EP, and had been an opener for singers such as Noah Cyrus and Coldplay. However, that all fell down the gutter when she was dropped from the major label, Interscope Records. Now, she is restarting her career with this newest album.
Her newest album is called, At The Beach, In Every Life. It features 12 songs, resulting in 46 minutes of music. Out of the twelve songs, five of the tracks had previously been released throughout the months of 2024, leading up to the release of this newest album.
All the songs have been written and produced by Perez herself, with occasional help from her friends, Noah Weinman and Aidan Hobb. Most of the songs are just stacked up vocal tracks, acoustic guitars, with the occasional string and keyboard embellishments added onto the songs.
The story behind this album is one of grief, love, and loss. During the pandemic, Perez lost her sister, Celene, and this album shows her processing the death of her sister over the last five years.
On her debut LP, Perez says, “This is the album I needed to listen to when I was twenty years old following the passing of my older sister, Celene. It’s taken years to process, and seeing how it’s colored everything in my life, it feels like a flag down in the sand at a checkpoint rather than a destination. And there was water everywhere for miles, and a girl met me there every time. I have been loved through my grief.”
