[April 29th, 12:34 p.m.] An internal lockdown took place earlier today at Lakota West Freshman, lasting a little over an hour. Starting at roughly 9:50 a.m., students and staff were put in lockdown due to rumor of a possible threat made by a Lakota Central student towards the school.
Lakota Central, a smaller high school branch in Lakota Local Schools, is located within the basement of Lakota West Freshman, which resulted in the full building being put on lockdown.
Under the advisement of the West Freshman Resource Officer Patrick Eilerman and the West Chester Police Department, the school was placed on lockdown until roughly 11 a.m.
During the lockdown, students and staff were not permitted to leave their rooms. Students reported they were told nothing until the lockdown ended, and are on an adjusted schedule for the rest of the day.
An email was sent out to parents of West Freshman students, reassuring them that all students were safe.
“We are grateful for our law enforcement partners in situations involving student and staff safety and will follow their guidance as they continue to monitor this situation.”
This is an actively developing story. More information will be added as soon as it is made available to The West Press.
