Abby Lee Miller is one of the most popular faces in the dance world due to her reality show Dance Moms. Back in 2018, she had an emergency spinal surgery and lost the ability to walk, which also led to the final season of the original show in 2019. Since then, she has held online privates and classes and still some occasional in-person classes at her studio, the ALDC. Now, Dance Moms: A New Era is airing on Hulu, but Miller is not affiliated with it. Instead, she now has two new reality shows called Mad House and Abby Lee Dance With Me, and she is back better than ever.
Abby Lee Dance With Me is what people are now calling season 9 of Dance Moms, even though it is a completely separate show. The show premiered on April 3rd, where Miller travels the country in search of the best young, next-gen dancers to blow away dance competitions. There have only been two episodes so far, but fans are liking this new version of Miller more because she is a lot more positive with her corrections and makes the dancers feel good about themselves while still giving constructive criticism. Although Miller was never meant to hurt the girls in the original Dance Moms, and it is widely known that the producers were forcing most of the show, viewers still like this new and improved reality series a lot more because it is more realistic.
On the other hand, Mad House, which originally aired in 2023, focuses on Miller’s new Mad House team, where she invites young adult dancers to live with her and earn a spot on the team through not only their dancing but “house assignments” as well. She has claimed that dance is not all about the “plastic trophies” anymore but about the reality of the “cutthroat” world out there. She continues with her harsh comments and the captivating drama that people saw back in the 2010s. Specifically, Miller claimed that dancers today only know contemporary movements, which is not going to get them anywhere in the future. The best-paying jobs in the dance world are more often than not on Broadway or in the film industry, which do not often include contemporary styles.
Overall, it is no shock to anyone that Miller is back like she was before. Everyone agrees that she can captivate an audience while still being a nice human being on the inside. Lots of dancers can also agree that she really does know what she is talking about, no matter the delivery of her comments.
