The Lakota West Theatre Club has officially begun working on its next big musical; a high school version of Hadestown.
Hadestown tells the ancient story of Orpheus and Eurydice, in a brand new light. The story takes place in the Great Depression era, in New Orleans. Eurydice, struck by hunger and poverty, goes to work in a hell-like, industrial version of the Greek underworld. Her lover, the poor singer-songwriter Orpheus, soon goes down to the underground (aka Hadestown) after her, to save the girl.
The original Hadestown production was written by Anaïs Mitchell, a musician and playwright, and was first performed in 2016. Lakota West will be performing the teen version of the musical, as the original features topics deemed too sensitive for high school.
Lakota West’s Hadestown will be performed for four nights in early April, and when the time gets closer, you can purchase the tickets at the official Lakota West Theatre website. Be sure to follow the official Lakota West Theatre instagram for updates on the progress in the production!
