The New York fashion label, Sandy Liang displays nothing but complete creativity and originality throughout their art. They kept consistent with this in their newest collection and show. A variety of different patterns, textures, and colors were used to capture the theme of girlhood and the experience of getting older and growing out of your childhood flair.
“A childhood fantasy realized”
The show notes describe a beautiful image of being a young girl and all the memories that come out of that experience. Liang, the creator of the brand, Incorporated her own experiences to bring this vision to life. Pulling inspiration from princess dresses that almost every little girl played dress up in.
Using actual scribbles and sketches from her personal day planners, She designs these garments as a recreation of her idea and memory of the dresses she used to wear. Bright colors and an array of objects are intended to give off the resemblance of jewelry, makeup, and shoes that girls love to play with. The dresses are meticulously created to show the borderline between the adult world of fashion and what we perceive it to be as children.
The brand designers take Liang’s vision a step further by incorporating different fabric designs such as polka dots, florals, and bright neon colors to use the idea of playing dress up but in a “full-grown” version. Bold silhouettes and diverse types of clothes were created to pull the designs into the world of adulthood. Zip-ups, Long skirts, suits, dresses, and more, were all put together to pull together another bold idea of a “Polly Pocket” and “ Barbie” theme.
The entire collection is intended to be released as a ready-to-wear line in the fall of this year. Presented during new york fashion week, the brand had the goal of giving a refreshing and nostalgic feel to everyone. Dedicated to the idea of girlhood, the vision was executed flawlessly.
