The 67th Annual Grammy Awards were held on February 2nd, hosted by comedian Trevor Noah, with many of music’s biggest artists in attendance. There were many surprises, upsets, and history-making wins.
Kendrick Lamar took home five Grammys for his hit song “Not Like Us.” The awards consisted of Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Music Video, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Performance. Just a week later, he performed at the Super Bowl Halftime show with SZA.
Beyoncé had a night to remember for her album Cowboy Carter, which took home the awards for Album of the Year and Best Country Album. She also took home the award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for her song “II MOST WANTED” featuring Miley Cyrus.
The award for Best New Artist was a competitive one this year. The nominees included Sabrina Carpenter, Benson Boone, Teddy Swims, Raye, Chappell Roan, Shaboozey, Doechii, and Khruangbin. Chappell Roan ended up taking home the award and in her acceptance speech, she demanded that labels pay their artists a livable wage and help them cover their healthcare.
Two categories that don’t get enough recognition are those for Producer of the Year and Songwriter of the Year. Dan Nigro, the producer behind many of the songs by artists like Chappell Roan, Olivia Rodrigo, and Conan Gray, won the award for Producer of the Year. Amy Allen took home her very first Grammy for Songwriter of the Year, and with the success she has been having with artists like Sabrina Carpenter, Tate McRae, and Halsey, she will definitely have more Grammy winning hits in the future.
In the pop genre, the awards for Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album went to Sabrina Carpenter for her song “Espresso” and her album Short n’ Sweet. The award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance went to Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars for their hit song “Die With A Smile” which many critics claimed was a “match made in Grammy heaven.” Charli xcx took home three Grammys: the award for Best Dance Pop Recording for her song “Von dutch” and the awards for Best Dance/Electronic Album and Best Recording Package for her album Brat. The award for Best Rock Performance went to The Beatles for their song “Now and Then.”
SZA won the award for Best R&B song for “Saturn.” The award for Best Rap Album went to Alligator Bites Never Heal by Doechii. And finally Kacey Musgraves won the award for Best Country Song for “The Architect.”
There were countless other awards and many great performances as well throughout the night. You can find the full list of winners from the 67th Annual Grammy Awards here at the Grammy’s website.
