Music is a big part of life, especially for teenagers. It can change the way we feel, help us relax, or give us energy. The kind of music we listen to and the time of day we listen can make a big difference in our mood.
Music has the power to make us happy, sad, calm, or excited. When we feel down, listening to upbeat and hype songs can help us feel better. On the other hand, slow and sad songs might make us feel even more emotional, especially if we relate. Some people like listening to calm music before bed to help them relax, while others prefer fast music in the morning to wake up and start off with a good mood. Music can even have a physical effect on our bodies like our heart and breath rate, and our blood pressure, just by the intensity of the song.
We went around Lakota West and interviewed some students about music, most of them happened to listen to music every day. Some said they listen to calmer music in the morning, and hype music later in the day. Most students said what they listen to depends on their mood throughout the day. Students seemed to have a deep connection with music, some said it helps when they relate and they feel seen and heard, while others said they listen to it just for fun.
Music is different for everyone but it also connects people. People refer to it as a “universal language.” Music is art, therefore it has many different genres, different artists, and art styles as well. Over the years, technology has provided different ways for people to express themselves through music, making it easier to spread around as well. Many people have different opinions on the same music, which goes to show that everybody has their own connection to music.
It is important to be careful what we consume regardless, music has been proven to affect our mood and mental health even though we enjoy it and enjoy relating to it.
