Recently, social media has become one of the biggest reasons for food trends. From viral recipes to viral places to visit, many people hear about new foods through posts, videos, and recommendations online, or by people around them. Sometimes, the viral foods are worth the hype, however, they can also get out of hand.
For decades, pizza has been a favorite or popular meal worldwide, with classic toppings like pepperoni, mushrooms, and sausage leading the way. Unfortunately, people decided they wanted fruit on pizza, specifically pineapple. Some love the mix of sweet and salty, while others believe fruit has no place on pizza. Like any other food trend, it has its lovers and haters.
Curiosity is fun, but it gets to a point where people are just eating ANYTHING. The West Press went around interviewing students around the building about their opinions on this madness. Most students said the answer to “Does pineapple belong on Pizza?” was no. Three people stated that people who eat pineapple on pizza should leave planet Earth, which is a bit extreme, but a little understandable. Most people said it was “disgusting”. Two people said it’s only okay on pizza if the ham was on the pizza. Somebody said people only think it’s a no because they never tried it but once they give it a chance they’ll like it. I disagree sometimes letting an idea go is the right thing to do.
People like what they like, but some things are just against common sense. I hope the Italians are not offended by this madness, however, I would be.
