Lakota’s finest journalists are currently rushing with great effort to put out as many articles and find exciting new ways for the average student to participate more in their school in these next couple days… But why? Why are so many people working so diligently to put out articles and come up with activities for students to participate in?
Three words: West Press Week.
The West Press is Lakota West’s official site of news, sports, culture, and much more. All of which are written, edited, and posted by the journalism class students, and the middle of February is when West Press Week takes place which initiates the constant posting of articles and creative activities to take part in.
The West Press Week takes place from February 24-28. You can start to look forward to seeing more posters up on the walls featuring clubs that look interesting.
Here’s what Ms. Gelhaus, the teacher of the journalism class had to say about the following questions:
Q: What kind of specific articles can I look forward to?
A: Black History Month articles or some articles about the fourth quarter, school events, sports, stuff like that.
Q: How can I participate in West Press Week?
A: Read the website every day, look at our Instagram (The West Press) people are going to post what articles are going up. I’m hoping we can create some kind of giveaway situation where people can go on and do a certain task and get a prize.
A competition will also be held throughout the week. Five articles will feature a red bold word (these three DON’T count). The first seven people to find the words, unscramble the phrase, and present the phrase to Ms. Gelhaus in upstairs room 252 will get a candy prize. Good luck to all, and happy reading!
