January starts the new year and along with starting New Year Resolutions, January is also National New Hobby Month. Get yourself started with a new interesting hobby and challenge yourself to do it for the rest of January! Maybe even the whole year–here are some suggestions to get you started!
- Painting & Pottery- Art is a great fun way to express yourself while also learning something new. This creative outlet can be achieved by simply going to the dollar store and purchasing a paint set or going to a pottery shop with friends.
- Gardening- Starting a garden could be a healthy way to start 2025. There are so many beginner-friendly vegetables to start your garden such as lettuce, cucumbers, and bell peppers.
- Scrapbooking- This is an increasingly popular new way of journaling! Using pictures, emojis, and colors to explain how you feel rather than just writing in a notebook. One of these new journals is called Wreck This Journal.
- Crocheting/Knitting- Another creative outlet that can be good for people who struggle with anxiety or ADHD. Knitting requires focus while also providing increased hand activity. This activity also creates very heartfelt, comfy gifts.
- Cooking/Baking- Sweet treats and savory dishes are always the way to go! Not only is cooking and baking more cost-effective, but it’s also a neat skill to learn and show off to friends and family!
- Geocaching– If you are good at riddles and hide-and-seek, then geocaching is the right hobby for you. This game can be played all around the world and people can collect all types of prizes.
- Hiking- This is a very adventurous and healthy activity. While the climb may be exhausting, the view of the mountains is breathtaking.
- Upcycling- Learning to upcycle not only helps the environment but also is a cool way to invent new unique ideas.
- Soap/Candlemaking- There’s nothing like smelling your own hard work around your home. Like many crafts, there are tons of kits that can be found at Five Below.
- Sports- There are so many sports to try and get active including basketball, soccer, swimming, and equestrian.
