The Lakota West Theatre program has been hard at work putting together sets, memorizing lines, and harnessing their inner Shakespeare as they prepare to put on their play Much Ado About Nothing.
The play was published by William Shakespeare in 1600, and follows protagonists Beatrice (played by Eva Donathan) and Benedick (played by Josh George), who were rivals from the very start. While their rivalry continues, Hero, Beatrice’s cousin (played by Eisse Walcott) and Claudio, Benedick’s cousin, (played by Au’Brillen Million), get married. The newlyweds, along with some of their friends, plot to push Beatrice and Benedick into liking each other; however, they must work through drama, misfortune, and wild rumors to be successful with their plan.
“People should come see Much Ado About Nothing because of how refreshing it is. Unlike most of Shakespeare’s popular plays, this one has a more loose and humorous tone” says cast member Chloe Tran, who plays the character Verges.
“The comedy really shines through and our cast has put in extra effort to make sure people can enjoy it without feeling bored. You’re always captured with something funny or dramatic, there’s never a dull moment.”
When asked about her experience playing her character Verges, she responded with “I love playing my character because my whole purpose is to bring laughter with my partner in the show. Although Verges (my character) doesn’t have many lines, I enjoy the physical interpretations I can add without being limited too much. It has been an honor and pleasure to be a part of the play despite the small part I play.”
The play will be performed this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, at 7:30 pm each day in the Lakota West Theatre. Tickets are being sold for $15 each online here and at the door.
