Happy Halloween! Halloween is a time for fun with family, friends, and of course candy! While Trick or Treating is fun, what’s more important is that people participate responsibly and safely. Here are a couple of tips to keep yourself protected:
- Plan your route ahead of time: Go through which houses and neighborhoods to visit and keep to a schedule.
- Always use sidewalks and well-lit streets: people need to use actual walkways rather than the streets to avoid potential car accidents.
- If you are planning on going without adults, always travel with a group: traveling in a group is always the safest option. Be sure to keep your phone on and charged in case of emergencies.
- Never go into a house or car for a treat: while the objective is to get candy, be sure to get it safely. Cars are NOT an option.
- Make sure to have battery-powered flashlights for when it gets dark: in case streetlights are broken having your own source of light can be an advantage.
- Although very rare, always check candy packaging for possible tampering
- Use flame-resistant costumes and do not leave cable-lit pumpkins unattended: freak accidents happen, better to be safe than sorry.
- Avoid long or sharp swords or accessories
- Decorative contacts are not a good idea if used without an eye exam or prescription: since they aren’t prescribed, contact lenses can lead to damaging vision or even complete loss.
- Check the ingredients of face paint for toxic ingredients: be on the lookout for arsenic, cadmium, mercury, and lead.
These are just a few things to ensure a Happy Halloween. There are many other ways to have a Happy Halloween like Niederman Farm or a Movie Marathon, just make sure to be safe(and eat a couple of sweets too)!
