The music world lost yet another international superstar. On October 16th, 2024, former One Direction member, Liam Payne, passed away after falling from his 3rd story balcony at a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Payne was in Argentina after attending the concert of his former bandmate, Niall Horan. Earlier on the day of his passing, Payne was posting on social media with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy. 

Later in the day, hotel staff contacted emergency services after a guest (Payne) was said to have been acting “erratically,” damaging the hotel room, and seemed to be “under the influence of drugs and alcohol.” Around ten minutes following emergency services being contacted, Payne jumped from his 3rd story balcony, landing in a courtyard below. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tributes poured in from all around the world following the news of Liam Payne’s death, including those from his former One Direction bandmates. A vigil also started outside the hotel in Buenos Aires where he had died.
