Imagine sitting at a desk for 7 hours a day and not getting a break to relax and take a snooze. A 30-minute nap, or even just having time to reset, could help a majority of students maintain a good focus as well as boost their mood. Better energy results in a better environment, where students are attentive and ready to learn. High school students should have a nap period during the school day.
Being a high schooler is already hard enough. Having the pressure to maintain grades, work after school, and in an athlete’s case, playing a sport, just makes it harder. Students often have to wake up between the times of 6-7am, and after school, have to partake in strenuous homework assignments just to pass their classes. It can take a toll on them mentally and physically.
“During the school day, I feel very tired. I get 6 hours of sleep” said Jaylyn Hall.
As stated earlier, sleeping is crucial when it comes to the learning process for students. Like in kindergarten, kids work better when they have energy. Setting aside a time that is specifically given to reset is important not just for little kids, but high schoolers too.
Some may say that lunch is the equivalent of what the period for having a nap time might be, but there’s a difference. Lunch can often be overwhelming for students because of the loud environment and packed space. One could also argue that study hall replaces having nap time, but that is overwhelming in a different way; although it’s a quiet space, there is often stress to finish homework in those work-centered times.
Despite conflicting opinions, it is important to keep the well-being of the students in mind. This is why nap time should be available to high school students throughout the course of a school day.

Napping should really be more available during school, or at the very least a longer break to aid in prevention of student burnout through the day.
