West Chester Road, which lies between MidPointe Library and Lakota West High School, is now open.
The student who was hit was a senior of Lakota West and Butler Tech.
Before school started on Friday, September 20th, a Lakota West student was crossing the street on her way to catch the Butler Tech bus and was hit somewhere around 6:48AM.
The student pushed the button to signal the lights of the crosswalk to turn on before crossing the street. The accident happened briefly and without any known witnesses. The crosswalk where the accident took place had no crossing guard police in the area.
The student was quickly taken to the hospital, with the driver remaining at the scene. West Chester Township officials say that the student remained conscious throughout the incident, and was able to speak to medical staff and personnel at the scene. No specific injuries are known at this time.
The student, who attends Butler Tech, an associate campus that pulls from students around the area who plan on going into the arts and more hands-on learning, has not been named at this time. As of 9 a.m., the parents of the student joined her at the hospital while she is in care.
When the incident happened, Lakota West Principal Scott Laman and Head Coach of the football team Tom Bolden were among the first at the scene, according to a message he wrote to Lakota families.
“Prior to Lakota West arrival time, there was an accident at the crosswalk between MidPointe Library and our parking lot,” said Laman. “Coach Bolden and I reported to the scene of the accident immediately…I can only share that our student was rushed to the hospital and that we are praying for the best possible outcome of this very unfortunate situation.”
At 7:45 a.m., teachers at Lakota West went into an emergency staff meeting, though no information has been shared on what was discussed.
West Chester Road has been temporarily closed while local police investigate the scene.
