The 2024 offseason has begun for the Ohio State football team, after a loss to Missouri 14-3 in the Cotton Bowl. That game and the loss to Michigan have given Ohio State fans much cause for concern, as many feel that the program is starting on a downward spiral. However, head coach Ryan Day and the rest of the staff have silenced the doubters with the moves they have been making.
First, there are many players returning for their senior year at Ohio State. Emeka Egbuka announced he is returning, the star wide receiver racked up 41 receptions for 4 touchdowns and 515 yards in his junior year. Treveyon Henderson, a standout running back all three years in college, also announced he is returning. Pretty much the entire defense also decided to return, consisting of Jack Sawyer, JT Tuimoloau, Denzel Burke, Ty Hamilton, Tyleik Williams, Jordan Hancock, and Lathan Ransom.
Now, as for the many transfers. First off, former Kansas State quarterback Will Howard decided to transfer to Ohio State. Howard threw for 2,613 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in 2023, and he will be the replacement at starting quarterback for Kyle McCord. The number one running back in the transfer portal, Quinshon Judkins, transferred to the Buckeyes from Ole Miss, making for a nasty 1-2 combo with Treveyeon Henderson. Former Alabama safety Caleb Downs was arguably the biggest transfer out of all of them, as the sophomore had a monster freshman year, making this Ohio State defense even scarier than it already is. Ohio State also got two other Alabama transfers, senior offensive lineman Seth McLaughlin and freshman 5-star quarterback Julian Sayin.
With all of these acquisitions in the offseason, Ohio State is loaded with talent for the 2024 season. This year is make or break for Ryan Day, and if he cannot win it all with this roster then he might never win it. The time is now for the Buckeyes. with a national championship being the bare minimum for this group in the 2024 season.
