In 2016, Harry Potter and The Cursed Child, a play set 19 years after the final Harry Potter rendition, was released to the public. In consecutive years (2016, 2018, 2022) three more movies were released in the Fantastic Beasts franchise. These supplementary storylines grew a lot of popularity among fans worldwide, but many OG Harry Potter fans still longed for an extension of the Hogwarts saga. Acknowledging their vast millennial audience, Warner Brothers released Hogwarts Legacy in February of 2023. 

Hogwarts legacy is an action-packed role-playing game that introduces the player as a 5th-year transfer student. The game stays true to the original storyline and incorporates a lot of key moments from the Harry Potter series, Including The Olivander’s wand ceremony, visiting Hogsmeade, and the sorting hat ceremony (which dictates how your gameplay will progress). 

The game is set 100 years before the Harry Potter timeline. So the game doesn’t have any familiar names like Luna Lovegood or Hermione Granger, but some novelty characters from the Harry Potter franchise are included like nearly headless-nick before ghost-hood and the great-great-grandfather of Sirius Black.

Despite the semi-washed-out graphics and Rowling controversy, Harry Potter enthusiasts around the world have flocked to their play stations after this release. Fans now wonder if Hogwarts Legacy can replace Universal Studio’s wizarding world (minus the Butterbeer). If this game gets incorporated into virtual reality, it could truly be a millennial’s dream come true.
